A chronicle of the beginning and end of the romance between actors Michael Reese Meyers and Scarlett Johansson (2013 - 2017):
>>Fall 2004: Michael and Scarlett meet on the set of 2005's Woody Allen sex thriller "Desire". In the film, shot entirely in black & white, Meyers plays, Chris McTaggert, a manipulative social climber from Ireland whose pro tennis career never panned out who then moves to London and marries a shy British woman (played by Felicity Jones) simply because she comes from a rich family and her wealthy father (Brian Cox) offers him a high position within his business company. Chris enjoys this lavish lifestyle until he meets and falls head over heels for the fiance of his wife's brother, a struggling and seductive American actress named Desire Nolan, played by Scarlett Johansson. The two begin an affair and when he gets her pregnant and she gives him the ultimatum of choosing who he truly wants to be with, the results are deadly. The film was a modest box office hit when released in September 2005 but garnered Golden Globe nominations for both Meyers and Johansson for their stellar performances. The film was buzzed about for it's steamy love scenes between Meyers and Johansson and was Woody Allen's biggest hit in years.
Rumors are the two did not get along at all during the filming of the movie. Reportedly Meyers felt Johansson was "uptight", "stuck up", and "full of herself". Rumors have it he even saw her purposely avoid signing autographs for fans who showed up to set to see her and that turned him off from her. Equally, there are reports the feelings were mutual and Johansson found Meyers "immature" and thought he had a "perverted" sense of humor she didn't like too much. At the time both were involved with other people as well. Meyers was at the time dating Kristen Bell and Scarlett was seeing Hollywood action director Michael Bay.
>>Fall 2012: When Meyers decided to put his Chants of Reign band back together and they began to go on tour to promote their second album, several celebrities reached out to him in order to get tickets to certain shows. Scarlett was one of them. This was the first time the two had been in contact since they were on the promotional tour for "Desire" 7 years earlier in 2005. The two remained friends after she attended one of their shows.
>>Winter 2012/Spring 2013: At some point in late 2012 or early 2013 Meyers and Johansson decided to go on a date to see if there was any romantic chemistry between them. Apparently they went for dinner, kissed goodnight, but texted each other the next day and decided there was no spark and to remain good friends.
>>Late Summer/Fall 2013: While Meyers was on tour with Chants of Reign in Europe promoting their "Ill Escape" album, he heard reports of Johansson being attacked by two young female fans after she refused to sign their posters, and he wanted to rush home to see if she was okay. He said the moment made him realize how much he cared for her. A few weeks later the two were talking in her kitchen while unpacking groceries about trying dating again and eventually decided to officially become a couple.
>>March 2014: Michael and Scarlett briefly breakup for about a month. Rumors of domestic violence began when she began doing interviews to promote Captain America: The Winter Soldier with a cast on her left arm. At that same time Meyers was hospitalized for a few days for an apparent panic attack. Johansson claimed she had broken her wrist while snowboarding and that rumors of abuse were "completely and utterly false". It was eventually revealed much later (by Meyers himself) that their brief breakup was over the Chants of Reign song "So Wilde" which Meyers wrote about his brief fling with actress Olivia Wilde. Johansson somehow heard the song that the band was preparing to put on their upcoming album "The Last Romantic Left & His Phunky Phresh Phlow". She didn't like the fact that he was going to make and release a song about him still having strong feelings and attraction for Wilde while he was in a relationship with Scarlett. Meyers eventually convinced her that those feelings were in the past and he even recorded a song professing his love for Johansson called "Scarlett Letter" which ended up on the album. They got back together shortly after.
>>Fall 2014 "DON JON": Meyers and Johansson worked together for the second time in the Gregory Dark directed film "Don Jon" (which was released in October 2014) where they both play modern day "Jersey Shore"-like stereotypical Italian New Yorkers who love to club and party. Meyers' Jon character is a porn addict and womanizer who falls for Scarlett's Barbara character, but his addictions eventually come between them. "Whose The Boss?" star Tony Danza co-starred as Meyers' father. The film was a big box office hit and many called Johansson's performance as one of her best. The film had many graphic love scenes between the two, much like their previous film "Desire".
>>PROPOSAL ON KIMMEL (October 2014): While Johansson was on the Jimmy Kimmell show promoting their new comedy "Don Jon", Meyers surprised her, and the audience, when he showed up and proposed marriage to her on live television. He joked that they argue all the time, usually about things she needs to change. He then reached into his coat pocket and told her the next thing she needs to change is her last name. He got down on one knee and proposed. Initially shocked and even seen mouthing "are you for real?" she eventually said yes. Kimmel and the audience applauded. The proposal went viral and was much talked about for many weeks.
>>Howard Stern Interview in Late October 2014: Later that month, the pair appeared on the Howard Stern show to promote their film. They also discussed their relationship, how they met, their sex life, her brother's suicide, and wedding plans.
>>July 2015 Breakup: On July 19, 2015 it was announced the pair had broken up again, this time with no specific reason given. Rumors flew that Johansson felt pressured into marriage due to their proposal being live on TV and she wanted to slow things down. During this time Meyers was seen briefly dating actress Shaenece Richards (daughter of Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards) and then created headlines after he publicized the fact he had a threesome with Blue Is The Warmest Color stars Lea Seydoux and Sage. Seydoux was Meyers' co-star in his James Bond film "Live Today Die Tomorrow" and Meyers directed Sage earlier that year when she starred in the Chants of Reign music video for their song "Passion". Johansson was also seen during this time holding hands with her Avengers co-star Chris Evans in New York, spurring rumors that the two might be now be seeing each other.
>>Fall 2015 Reconciliation: In November 2015, Meyers was involved in a small car crash and it was discovered Johansson was a passenger in the vehicle, showing the two were indeed spending time together again. Apparently the crash made the two realize how 'short life is' and that they should try their relationship again. They confirmed the fact they were back together when Meyers Instagrammed a picture of the pair kissing in front of a birthday cake that said Happy Birthday Scarlett during a Thanksgiving celebration. Fans of the couple rejoiced all over the internet that 'Scarmichael' was back on.
>>Oscar Support: In March 2016 Meyers won his first Oscar for Best Actor due to the stellar performance he gave in Alfonso Cuaron's survival epic "Lost in the Wilderness" co-starring legendary actor Daniel Day Lewis (who also won for Best Supporting Actor). In his acceptance speech he thanks Scarlett saying he is the 'only man qualified to say he wakes up next to the most beautiful woman in the world', obviously referring to Johansson.
>> Amber Heard Scandal Points to Infidelity (December 2016): A strange series of events built up to what would ultimately be the demise of Scarmichael. On December 23, 2016, Amber Heard filed for divorce from husband Johnny Depp after only 2 years of marriage. She sited domestic abuse which made national headlines. As Depp fought the claims, saying they were untrue, Heard provided photo after photo of her bruised face as evidence of violence in the marriage. She also provided statements and documents to the court giving context to what led to many of their fights. The most recent fight in December of 2016 that caused the final attack that forced her to call quits on the marriage was apparently over Meyers. Depp flew into a jealous rage, days after the death of his mother, and began accusing Meyers and Heard of having an affair. She tried to deny it and Depp demanded she call Meyers. She did and Depp then cursed Meyers out on the phone before allegedly assaulting Heard.
When these facts became public, many speculated if Depp was on to something and that Heard and Meyers were up to something behind Depp and Johansson's back. Earlier that year, Meyers and Heard did film The Danish Girl together, a period drama where Meyers plays the first man to undergo gender re-assignment surgery to become a woman. Alicia Vikander played his wife and Heard played a close friend of Vikander's. Many wondered if something happened between the two on set.
In February 2017, Heard was granted a permanent restraining order on Depp after courts ruled he was violent and she was granted $35 million dollars in a settlement. Shortly after Meyers showed up to the 2017 Oscars (for which he was nominated for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, co-starring Kate Winslet) alone without Johansson, causing many to speculate if there was trouble in the relationship. A few weeks later it was announced Meyers and Johansson had split again, leading many to believe the rumors of him and Heard were true. In May, Meyers was photographed on vacation with Heard and he eventually himself confirmed the two were in a relationship.
The following tweet from Meyers led many to believe there was trouble with Meyers and Johansson's relationship for a while, with him possibly feeling Heard love and appreciated him more than Scarlett, who broke off their engagement in July 2015 feeling she was being rushed into marriage, and apparently had no immediate plans to marry even once they got back together in November of 2015.
That fall of 2017, Chants of Reign released their Missionary Makeout Music 2 mixtape album and the two singles from the album were "Lips Like Ruby Rose" and "Amber Alert". The latter song clearly alluding to Heard, who also appeared in the music video for the song, confirming it was about her. The lyrics of the song paint the picture of a man who is in love with a woman who is toying with his emotions as she tries to convince him he is the one despite the fact she is seriously involved with another man as well and cannot decide who she wants to be with. Ultimately the man decides he is okay with being number two in her life because the sex is so good. Clearly Meyers wrote the song at a time when she was with Depp and he felt like the 'side guy'. Apparently another song on that same album titled "Sidelines" (which features rapper/singer Drake) is also about his fling with Heard.
